In Stredolabska table, on the right bank of the river Labe, near the confluence with the Jizera river. Around the year 900, during the reign of Spytihnev I., the Premysl fortified settlement was built here, one of the Premysl guard castles. The place, where prince Vaclav was assassinated by his brother Boleslav. The church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary houses the Palladium of the Czech land, a metal relief of the Virgin Mary with a child, comparable in significance to the coronation jewels. Since 1960 part of the ►Brandys nad Labem - Stara Boleslav conurbation.
